1. Post-employment restraint and confidentiality: When employees leave an organisation they can be bound by well drafted post-employment duties and restraints set out in their employment agreement. We will discuss how you can effectively protect in an enforceable way the interests of your business including confidential proprietary information and customer relationships.

Confronting workplace sexual harassment head-on: The team will provide practical solutions to reduce the risk of sexual harassment in the workplace, and briefly explain the legal framework of sexual harassment in Australia and recent cases, both Federal and State, where significant sums of damages have been awarded to victims of sexual harassment with employers being held vicariously liable.

3. Modern Slavery – legal risk and ethical dilemmas: Modern slavery is a growing problem throughout the world (including Australia) with over 40 million people currently trapped in slavery like conditions, and the numbers growing daily. This session will discuss the reporting requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) for larger organisations and how then impacts on smaller businesses. It will also outline legal risks for businesses, and steps to take to address modern slavery risks in business operations and supply chains.

4. Redundancy and reasonable management action- what you need to know: Employers considering making a worker redundant are usually aware that their actions might come under scrutiny in an unfair dismissal claim. What many employers don’t consider is that the reasonableness of the redundancy and the way in which it is undertaken may also come up for consideration by the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission should the worker make an application for compensation for psychiatric injury arising out of the redundancy, and the question of reasonableness in this forum is not so black and white. This session will explain what reasonable management action may look like and provide attendees examples from recent cases.

5. Employment Law 101: This session will provide an overview of the Australian industrial relations and employment law frameworks and the fundamental requirements of an employer. It will focus on employment contracts – how to get them right and the ramifications in not doing so.

6. Buying and selling a business: Whether buying or selling, businesses require a suitable structure or strategy that takes into account the intricacies of their business activity. We will discuss the typical issues involved in a transaction as well as how we can assist in the preparation, negotiation, management and completion.

7. Risk and Asset Protection: Asset protection starts with advice on structuring and identifying risks to ensure businesses can operate or grow wealth in the most effective structure. We will discuss strategies around asset protection including trust and superannuation structuring, estate planning, and business succession planning.
